Apartment Floor Plan Examples
A layout changes as it gains bedrooms, and each extra room costs floor area; these apartment floor plan examples show how much. The table compares five layouts from a studio to four bedrooms, and the notes below take two of them apart room by room.
Studio to four bedrooms, compared
| Layout | Bedrooms | Rooms | Outer size | m² | sq ft |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Studio floor plan | 0 | 3 | 6.00 × 6.50 m (19′ 8″ × 21′ 4″) | 39.0 | 420 |
| 1 Bedroom floor plan | 1 | 5 | 7.80 × 9.70 m (25′ 7″ × 31′ 10″) | 75.7 | 814 |
| 2 Bedroom floor plan | 2 | 6 | 9.80 × 9.70 m (32′ 2″ × 31′ 10″) | 95.1 | 1023 |
| 3 Bedroom floor plan | 3 | 8 | 13.80 × 9.70 m (45′ 3″ × 31′ 10″) | 133.9 | 1441 |
| 4 Bedroom floor plan | 4 | 8 | 13.80 × 9.70 m (45′ 3″ × 31′ 10″) | 133.9 | 1441 |
How the layouts grow
From one bedroom up, the layouts share a hallway, mostly with the day rooms on one side and the bedrooms and bathroom on the other; the four-bedroom puts its fourth bedroom on the day side. Each added room makes the plan wider, not deeper: the one-bedroom is 7.80 m (25′ 7″) wide, the two-bedroom 9.80 m (32′ 2″), and the three- and four-bedroom layouts 13.80 m (45′ 3″), all 9.70 m (31′ 10″) deep.
Growing sideways keeps every room except the hallway on an outside wall, with a window of its own.

Similar bedrooms
3.80 × 4.00 m (12′ 6″ × 13′ 1″) and 3.60 × 4.00 m (11′ 10″ × 13′ 1″): neither flatmate gets a box room.
The bathroom by the door
Guests can reach the bathroom without passing the bedrooms.
Doorless day rooms

Frequently asked questions
Why do the areas include the hallway?
The editor measures every closed room, hallways and balconies included. Listings often count only certain rooms, so compare like with like.
Can I draw my own apartment from a listing?
Yes. Start from the closest example or from a blank plan, then type each wall length from the listing.
How much area does an extra bedroom add?
In these layouts, going from one to two bedrooms adds 19.4 m² (209 sq ft): the plan gets wider, and the living room grows with it.
Why does the studio not follow the same pattern?
A studio has no hallway: the front door opens into the kitchenette and everything else is one room. From one bedroom up, the layouts share the hallway pattern.
Are these layouts typical of real apartments?
They are simple, rectangular layouts chosen to be easy to read and change. Real apartments vary with the building, so use them as a starting point and redraw your own flat from its measurements.
