Layout overview

The living and kitchen space is 7.00 × 5.00 m (23′ × 16′ 5″), 35.0 m² (377 sq ft) on its own. The kitchen runs along the end wall, the dining table sits near the window and the sofa faces a TV stand at the far end.

The bedroom and the bathroom are stacked along one side and both have their doors in the wall they share with the living space. The front door opens into the living space too.

Sizes and areas are measured to the center lines of the walls, the same way the editor’s area schedule measures them, so each room’s clear floor is slightly smaller.

What makes this layout work

  1. No floor lost to a hallway

With no corridor, all 52.5 m² (565 sq ft) is in usable rooms, and two-thirds of it is the living-kitchen.

  2. Three zones without walls

Kitchen, dining and lounge each have their own strip of the room, so the space reads as three areas while staying open.

  3. The only template with a bathtub

    The 3.50 × 1.80 m (11′ 6″ × 5′ 11″) bathroom fits a full-size bathtub as well as a toilet and a sink.

  4. A quiet bedroom

The bedroom is in the far corner from the front door, so arriving and cooking happen away from the bed.

Who this template suits

  1. Planning an open-plan conversion

See how a kitchen, a dining table and a sofa share one room before you remove a wall.

  2. A one-bedroom flat

A starting point for a compact flat or an apartment above a garage.

  3. Comparing furniture sizes

Swap the sofa or the table and check the walking space in the open room.

Things to consider

  1. No entrance hall

The front door opens straight into the living space, with no space set aside for coats and shoes. Try a wardrobe or a short partition by the door.

  2. Cooking is part of the living room

Smells and noise from the kitchen reach the sofa. If that bothers you, the 1 bedroom template has a separate kitchen.

  3. A snug bedroom

    The bedroom is 3.50 × 3.20 m (11′ 6″ × 10′ 6″) (11.2 m² (121 sq ft)). It holds a double bed, two nightstands and a wardrobe, but not much more.

  4. Guests use the living room to reach the bathroom

The bathroom door is in the living space, which is convenient for visitors and means no private route from the bedroom.

Make it fit your space

  1. Move the kitchen

Drag the counter, the stove and the fridge one at a time to another wall; each one snaps flush against a wall when you drop it close to one.

  2. Swap the bath for a shower

Delete the bathtub and add the shower from the library to free up floor in the bathroom.

  3. Add a partition

Draw a wall with W to close off the kitchen; the editor turns the closed space into its own room.

Frequently asked questions

How many people does the dining table seat?

The table has 4 chairs. The library's dining table is 1.60 × 0.90 m (5′ 3″ × 2′ 11″); resize it in the properties panel if yours is different.

Can I turn it into a studio?

Yes. Delete the wall between the bedroom and the living space to merge them into one room, then rename the room in the properties panel.

How big is the open-plan apartment?

52.5 m² (565 sq ft) in 3 rooms, inside outer walls of 10.50 × 5.00 m (34′ 5″ × 16′ 5″) measured to their center lines.

How is this different from the 1 bedroom apartment template?

Both have one bedroom. This one puts cooking, dining and living in one room and has no hallway; the 1 bedroom template has a separate kitchen and living room off a hallway, and is larger.

Can I print or share my version of this plan?

Yes. From the editor, export your copy as a PDF, SVG or PNG, print it, or create a share link; the plan is drawn in your browser and nothing is uploaded to export it.
