Furniture Layout Planner

Check the fit before you buy or move anything: enter the room’s size in the furniture layout planner and add pieces from the editor’s library. It flags pieces that overlap, stick out of the room or sit closer than your walkway gap.

How to use it

  1. Set the room size

Width and length in meters or feet and inches.

  2. Add furniture

Beds, sofas, tables, desks, wardrobes, kitchen and bathroom pieces, each with the same size it has in the editor. New pieces go to the first free spot.

  3. Choose a walkway gap

From 45 cm (18″) to 90 cm (36″). Pieces closer together than this are marked.

  4. Move things around

Drag pieces on the plan, or select one and use the arrow keys; R turns it and Delete removes it. Auto-arrange packs everything in again.

  5. Open it in the editor

“Design this room” creates the room with your furniture in place, ready to add doors and windows and view in 3D. The size you typed becomes the clear floor between the walls; the editor measures area to the wall centre lines, so its area figure is a little larger.

What the check looks at

The planner treats every piece as its rectangle on the floor. It warns when two pieces overlap, when a piece sticks out past a wall, when a piece does not fit the room at all, and when the gap between two pieces is smaller than the walkway gap you chose. Rugs can sit under other furniture without a warning.

It does not know where your doors, windows, radiators or sockets are, or which way a door swings, and it does not check the gap between furniture and the walls. Draw the room in the editor for that, and use this check as a quick first pass.

Choosing a walkway gap

The right gap depends on how often you use it. A narrow gap may be fine behind a chair you rarely move, while you use the path to a door or around a bed every day. Measure a gap you find comfortable in your current home, use that here, then try the next size up to see what it would cost in floor space.

When it helps

  1. Before buying a bed or sofa

See whether a double bed or a 2.1 m (6′ 11″) sofa leaves room to walk past.

  2. Moving to a new home

Enter the new room sizes from the listing and check that your main pieces go in.

  3. A bedroom that doubles as an office

Try a desk and chair next to the bed and wardrobe with the gap you need.

  4. Rearranging a room

Try a layout on screen before moving anything heavy.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the furniture sizes come from?

They are the default sizes of the editor’s furniture library, for example a 160 × 200 cm double bed and a 210 × 90 cm sofa. Your own furniture may differ.

Can I change the size of a piece?

Not in this planner. Open the layout in the editor with “Design this room”, select the piece and type its real width and depth in the properties panel.

Does the planner take doors and windows into account?

No. It only knows the room’s width and length. Open the layout in the editor to add doors and windows and check the space around them.

Can I rotate furniture?

Yes, in steps of 90 degrees: use the turn button next to a piece or press R with it selected.

Why does Auto-arrange push everything into one corner?

It is a simple packing: it places the largest pieces first, each in the first free spot from the top-left corner that keeps your walkway gap. It answers whether everything fits; drag the pieces where you want them afterwards.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The planner runs in your browser. If you open the layout in the editor, the new project is saved in this browser only.

Ready to plan your space?
