Layout overview

Each floor measures 12.00 × 9.00 m (39′ 4″ × 29′ 6″). On the ground floor the hallway holds the stair and the front door; the living room opens to the hallway and to the kitchen-diner through wide openings.

Upstairs, a landing runs across the house. The stair arrives in a stair hall that opens onto the landing, with the bedrooms on one side and the bathroom and the study on the other.

Sizes and areas are measured to the center lines of the walls, the same way the editor’s area schedule measures them, so each room’s clear floor is slightly smaller.

  4. Big open living space

The living room (38.5 m² (414 sq ft)) and the kitchen-diner (27.5 m² (296 sq ft)) are joined by a wide opening.

Who this template suits

  1. Designing a family house

Start from a complete two-floor layout instead of a blank page.

  2. Learning floors and stairs

See how a stair on one floor lines up with the stair hall above it.

  3. Presenting a project

Export each floor to PDF or walk through it in 3D.

Things to consider

  1. The downstairs bathroom opens from the kitchen

Its door is in the kitchen-diner wall. To reach it from the hallway instead, drag the door along the walls or add a new one.

  2. No en-suite

    The 5.00 × 4.50 m (16′ 5″ × 14′ 9″) main bedroom shares the upstairs bathroom with two bedrooms and the study.

  3. A small kitchen table

The kitchen-diner is laid out with a table for two. A family of five or six needs a longer table, which the room has space for.

  4. Stair size is the default

The stair uses the editor's default straight stair for the floor height. Check its width and length against the rules where you build before relying on it.

Make it fit your space

  1. Switch floors

Use the floors menu to move between the ground and first floor; the other floor shows faintly underneath.

  2. Move the stair

Select the stair and drag it; check that the stair hall above still lines up.

  3. Add a third floor

Add a floor above, then copy a room (select it and press Ctrl/⌘ C), switch floors and paste it at the pointer (Ctrl/⌘ V), using the faint floor below to line it up; repeat for each room you want to stack.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see both floors in 3D?

The 3D preview on this page shows one floor at a time; use the floor buttons to switch. In the editor, the 3D view stacks every floor, and you can isolate one floor when you want to look inside it.

How many bedrooms and bathrooms are there?

4 bedrooms (one on the ground floor, three upstairs), a study and 2 bathrooms, one on each floor.

How big is each floor of the villa?

Each floor measures 12.00 × 9.00 m (39′ 4″ × 29′ 6″) to the wall center lines: 108.0 m² (1163 sq ft) on the ground floor and 108.0 m² (1163 sq ft) upstairs, 216.0 m² (2325 sq ft) in all.

Can I turn the study into a fifth bedroom?

Yes. The study is 4.00 × 3.30 m (13′ 1″ × 10′ 10″); rename it in the properties panel and swap the desk for a bed from the library.

Can I print each floor separately?

Yes. In the PDF and print export you choose the current floor or all floors; each floor goes on its own sheet.
