Open Floor Plan House Plans
In open floor plan house plans, the kitchen, dining and living areas share one space or link through wide openings instead of doors. This page shows both as editable plans, and how to open up any other plan in the editor before anyone touches a real wall.
Fully open: one room for living, dining and cooking

Zones instead of walls
In this layout one 7.0 × 5.0 m (23′ × 16′ 5″) room holds three zones. The kitchen runs along the end wall, the dining table sits under the 2.4 m (7′ 10″) window, and the sofa, coffee table and TV stand form a lounge at the other end, marked by a rug rather than a wall. The front door opens into the room, and the bedroom and bathroom open off it.
Partly open: rooms joined by wide openings

The broken-plan alternative
The villa takes a middle route. Its living room, 7.0 × 5.5 m (23′ × 18′ 1″), and kitchen-dining room are separate rooms joined by a 1.2 m (3′ 11″) wide opening, and the living room meets the hall the same way. You can see from the kitchen to the sofa, but cooking smells and noise do not fill the whole floor, and each room keeps its walls for furniture and storage.
Open up any plan in the editor
Keep a copy first
Duplicate the project from your project list so you can compare the open and closed versions.
Delete the wall
Select the wall between two rooms and delete it. The two rooms become one, with the combined area.
Or add a wide opening
Drag an Opening from the library onto the wall and set its width; the rooms stay separate.
Zone it with furniture
Place a rug, a sofa back or a dining table to mark each area, and check the sightlines in 3D.
Before you knock through
Structure
Some walls carry the floor or roof above. The editor does not know which; ask a structural engineer before removing a real wall.
Cooking smells and noise
A wide opening, as in the villa, keeps some separation between kitchen and lounge.
Storage
Fewer walls means less wall to put cupboards and shelves against. Plan them first.
Walking routes
Without walls, the route from the door to the kitchen can cut through the seating. Keep it to the edge of the room.

Frequently asked questions
What is an open floor plan?
A layout where two or more of the kitchen, dining and living areas share one space without full-height walls between them.
Does deleting a wall in the editor merge the rooms?
Yes. Rooms are the spaces enclosed by walls, so removing the wall between two rooms leaves one room with their combined area.
Can I keep a half wall or kitchen island?
Draw a short wall that does not close off a room and lower its height in the wall properties, or use the counter from the library as an island.
Can I compare open and closed versions?
Yes. Duplicate the project and open up the copy, then switch between the two in your project list.
Can I add a sliding door between the zones?
The editor draws hinged doors and plain openings. For a sliding door, place an opening of the right width and add a text label.
