Double bedroom

BedWardrobe3.60 m · 11′ 10″3.70 m · 12′ 2″

Double bedroom

3.60 × 3.70 m (11′ 10″ × 12′ 2″) · 13.3 m² (143 sq ft)

The arrow marks the door. Add it in the editor with the door tool (D).

Notes on the double bedroom

  1. Bed centered on the wall

With the head of the bed against the wall opposite the wardrobe, both sides have 0.93 m (3′) of floor. About 0.6 m (2 ft) beside a bed is a common minimum; more makes bed-making easier.

  2. Wardrobe at the foot

0.95 m (3′ 1″) between the foot of the bed and the wardrobe leaves room to open the doors and stand in front of them.

  3. Door clear of the bed

The door is low on a side wall, where its swing stays clear of the bed and the nightstands.

Single bedroom with a desk

Single bedroom

3.00 × 3.00 m (9′ 10″ × 9′ 10″) · 9.0 m² (97 sq ft)

The arrow marks the door. Add it in the editor with the door tool (D).

Notes on the single bedroom

  1. Bed along the wall

Pushing a single bed into a corner frees the middle of the room.

  2. A desk by the opposite wall

0.75 m (2′ 6″) between the bed and the desk chair: enough to pass, with the chair tucked in.

  3. Storage by the door

The wardrobe stands on the door wall, where it does not crowd the desk.

Main bedroom with a storage wall

BedWardrobeWardrobe4.20 m · 13′ 9″4.00 m · 13′ 1″

Main bedroom

4.20 × 4.00 m (13′ 9″ × 13′ 1″) · 16.8 m² (181 sq ft)

The arrow marks the door. Add it in the editor with the door tool (D).

Notes on the main bedroom

  1. A wall of wardrobes

Two wardrobes give 2.40 m (7′ 10″) of storage along one wall, 1.45 m (4′ 9″) from the foot of the bed.

  2. Room beside the bed

1.13 m (3′ 8″) on each side of the bed, room for an armchair or a dressing table.

  3. Storage by the door

The door opens next to the wardrobes, so you reach them without walking round the bed.

Plan your bedroom

  1. Measure the room

Width and length wall to wall, and the position of the door and window.

  2. Open the closest layout

Pick meters or feet and inches; the room opens with its furniture.

  3. Match your furniture

Select the bed or wardrobe and type the real width and depth.

  4. Add the door and window

Use the door tool (D) and the window tool (N), then check the swing.

Frequently asked questions

How big should a double bedroom be?

It depends on the bed and storage you want. The double example here is 3.60 × 3.70 m (11′ 10″ × 12′ 2″) to the wall center lines, which fits a 1.60 × 2.00 m (5′ 3″ × 6′ 7″) bed, two nightstands and a wardrobe with space to walk around.

Do these layouts include the door?

The drawings mark where the door goes. The editor link opens the walls and furniture; add the door with the door tool (D).

How much space should I leave beside a bed?

There is no single rule. About 0.6 m (2 ft) is a common minimum for getting in and out; the double example leaves 0.93 m (3′) and the main bedroom 1.13 m (3′ 8″), which also fits a nightstand comfortably.

What size is the bed in these examples?

The double and main bedrooms use the library's double bed, 1.60 × 2.00 m (5′ 3″ × 6′ 7″); the single bedroom uses a 0.90 × 2.00 m (2′ 11″ × 6′ 7″) single bed. Type your own bed's size in the properties panel.

Can I try my own furniture before buying it?

Yes. Select an item, type its real width and depth, and check the gaps with the measure tool (M). The furniture layout planner does a quick fit check without opening the editor.
