Architecture & Measurement Calculators
These architecture and measurement calculators convert lengths and areas exactly, from feet and inches to acres, hectares, gaj and regional land units with their sources, work out a plot’s area from its sides, and check floor area, coverage and setbacks against the figures you enter. Each result says when it is exact and when it has been rounded.
In this section
- Feet to Inches ConverterConvert feet to inches and inches to feet and inches, exactly. Turn decimal feet like 6.27 ft into 6′ 3¼″ to the nearest 1/16 inch, with the formula shown.
- Feet to Meters ConverterConvert feet and inches to meters, centimeters and millimeters, or meters back to feet and inches. 1 ft = 0.3048 m exactly; every step of the sum is shown.
- Square Feet to Square Meters ConverterConvert square feet to square meters and square meters to square feet exactly. 1 sq ft = 0.09290304 m²; see the formula, the factor and common flat sizes.
- Square Yard & Gaj CalculatorWork out square yards from a plot’s length and width, or convert sq yd and gaj to sq ft and m². 1 gaj = 1 sq yd = 9 sq ft = 0.83612736 m², exactly.
- Acre CalculatorFind a plot’s size in acres and hectares from its length and width, or convert acres to hectares, square feet and m². 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft exactly.
- Hectare CalculatorFind a field’s size in hectares from its length and width in meters, or convert hectares to m², ares, acres and regional units like bigha, with sources.
- Plot Area CalculatorFind the area of a rectangular or irregular plot from its measured sides and a diagonal, in sq ft, m², square yards (gaj), acres and hectares, step by step.
- FAR & FSI CalculatorWork out the total floor area your plot allows from the FAR or FSI you enter, or the FAR your floors reach. Both terms explained; metric and imperial.
- Ground Coverage CalculatorFind what share of your plot a building covers, the largest footprint the coverage figure you enter allows, and the open area left, with each part listed.
- Setback CalculatorSubtract the front, rear and side setbacks you enter from a rectangular plot to see the buildable envelope, its area and how it compares with your coverage.
How the converters work
Each converter multiplies by the size of one “from” unit and divides by the size of one “to” unit, using the definitions: 1 in = 25.4 mm, 1 ft = 0.3048 m, 1 sq ft = 0.09290304 m². The sums run on whole-number fractions instead of floating point, so 1,200 sq ft shows as 111.483648 m² with no stray digits at the end.
A result that ends within 12 decimal places is shown in full and marked exact. Anything longer is rounded half-up to the decimal places you pick and marked with ≈. Lengths can also be read as feet, inches and a fraction to the nearest 1/16 in or finer.

Frequently asked questions
Are the conversions exact?
Every factor is exact by definition. A result that ends within 12 decimal places is shown in full and marked exact; a longer one, such as 1 m in feet, is rounded to the places you choose and marked with ≈.
Do the converters work in feet and inches?
Yes. Pick “Feet and inches” to type feet and inches in two boxes, or to read any length as feet, inches and a fraction of an inch.
Are my numbers stored?
No. The converters run in your browser. Only your choice of metric or imperial is remembered on this device; a share link keeps the inputs in the link itself.
Ready to plan your space?
It is free, runs in your browser and needs no account. Projects are saved privately on this device.
