A small office with an open workspace

Office
7 rooms · 140.0 m² (1507 sq ft) · outer size 14.00 × 10.00 m (45′ 11″ × 32′ 10″)
How the office is zoned
Public to private
Reception at the entrance, the open workspace behind it, and the meeting room and manager office furthest from the door.
Rows of desks by the windows
The 70.0 m² (753 sq ft) open workspace has three rows of four desks along the window wall.
Support rooms at the back
Break room, WC and storage sit in a row beside reception, walled off from the desks.
A private office for one
Private office
3.00 × 3.30 m (9′ 10″ × 10′ 10″) · 9.9 m² (107 sq ft)
The arrow marks the door. Add it in the editor with the door tool (D).
What makes the private office work
Facing the door
The desk faces the entrance, with a visitor chair across it.
Room to push back
There is 1.18 m (3′ 10″) between the desk and the wall behind it. About 1 m (3 ft 3 in) is a common allowance for a desk chair to move back.
Storage on the side wall
A bookshelf on the side wall keeps files within reach of the desk.
A meeting room for six
Meeting room
3.80 × 4.60 m (12′ 6″ × 15′ 1″) · 17.5 m² (188 sq ft)
The arrow marks the door. Add it in the editor with the door tool (D).
Sizing a meeting room
Space behind the chairs
The table edge is 1.38 m (4′ 6″) from the side walls and 1.32 m (4′ 4″) from the end walls. Roughly 0.9–1.2 m (3–4 ft) is a common guide for pulling out a chair and walking behind it.
A table for six
The table is the office library's 1.80 × 0.90 m (5′ 11″ × 2′ 11″) meeting table for six, turned lengthwise, with three visitor chairs on each side, as the Meeting room for 6 preset places them.
Door away from the table
The door is in a corner, so people arriving late do not squeeze past chairs.
Plan your office with the editor
Draw the shell
Draw the outer walls to your measured size, or open the office template and resize it.
Divide it
Add internal walls for meeting rooms and offices; each closed space becomes a room with its area.
Place desks
Fill an open area with desk auto-fill (single desks, benches or pods), or place one desk and chair and duplicate them (Ctrl/⌘ D) to build rows by hand.
Check the gaps
Read the office checks for narrow aisles and blocked chair zones, measure anything else with the measure tool (M), and adjust.
Frequently asked questions
Does the editor count desks or seats for me?
Yes. Workstation desks from the library count as seats, and the Seats panel totals them per room, floor and project as you edit; the office template opens with its desks already counted.
Can I open the meeting room in feet and inches?
Yes. Each single-room example has a link for meters and one for feet and inches; you can also switch units later in the editor.
How big should a meeting room for six be?
It depends on the table and how people move round it. The example is 3.80 × 4.60 m (12′ 6″ × 15′ 1″) to the wall center lines, which leaves at least 1.32 m (4′ 4″) between the table and every wall.
Can I add the private office or meeting room to my own plan?
Each example opens as its own project. To use one in your plan, draw a room of the same size there with the room tool (R), then add the furniture from the library; within a plan, copy (Ctrl/⌘ C) and paste (Ctrl/⌘ V) repeat a furnished room.
Where do I plan a whole office from scratch?
The office layout planner page walks through planning a full office in the editor, from the outer walls to the desk rows.
